As well as allowing you to store your vehicles and tools, our garages are particularly quick and easy to install, perfectly weatherproof and a joy to live with. To maximise the lifespan of your garage and ensure it blends in with your garden, it’s important to bear several key points in mind:
The material
The material is a key factor in choosing your garage, depending on your specific needs. That’s why we offer wooden garages, metal garages and PVC garages.
A wooden garage has the significant advantage of blending in particularly well with the look of your garden and your home
You can very easily repaint it in the colour of your choice. Habitat et Jardin offers a wide range of different types of wood for its wooden garages, such as spruce, which is a particularly durable timber as spruce trees are the oldest in the world. Canadian cedar is rot-proof and is known for its natural resistance to mould and insects. White fir is very commonly used as it is a highly durable timber that has proven its worth.
The main advantage of a metal garage is that it offers excellent weather resistance thanks to its very sturdy material and structure.
Furthermore, metal garages are particularly low-maintenance; in other words, a jet of water is all that is needed to clean them, and they are protected against rust by their galvanised metal coating. Another significant advantage is that metal garages can be installed quickly and easily.
PVC garages offer much the same advantages as galvanised metal garages
That is to say, they are quick and easy to install and require virtually no maintenance or treatment. However, unlike metal garages, PVC garages are perfectly suitable for installation by the seaside, whereas metal garages do not cope well with salty air. PVC garages are also resistant to both condensation and UV rays. However, PVC garages are less aesthetically pleasing than wooden garages, for example, which is why they can easily be repainted in the colour of your choice so that your PVC garage blends in perfectly with your garden.
The size of your garage
It is important to decide how you will use your garage before making your purchase. For example, a garage with a floor area of less than 20m² will allow you to store a vehicle of any size, as well as a few tools. With a ‘2-in-1’ garage, you can both keep your car sheltered from the elements under a carport and store a lawnmower, a barbecue or a small workbench inside the garage. Finally, garden sheds larger than 40m² will allow you to store one or two vehicles, with enough space to store all your gardening tools or other bulky items. It is also important to take into account the external dimensions of your garage so as not to clutter up your garden. Furthermore, to allow the garage to ‘breathe’, it is recommended that you leave 50 cm of free space around the structure. To prevent the garage from deteriorating, it is strongly advised to take the growth of vegetation into account; for example, you should not position the garage too close to trees.
